Heat-Spurs postponed as Miami deals with COVID-19 outbreak
Wednesday's game between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs will not proceed as scheduled because Miami can't dress the eight players required to compete, the league announced.
The Heat announced earlier Wednesday that Max Strus, Zylan Cheatham, P.J. Tucker, and Gabe Vincent had entered the NBA's health and safety protocols, joining Udonis Haslem and Kyle Lowry from days prior.
Those moves, in tandem with multiple injuries to other Miami players, left the team without enough players to square off against the Spurs.
This is the 10th time a game has been postponed this season.
With a contest against the Houston Rockets set for Friday, the Heat have two days to get their roster in order. Lowry - who entered protocols on Dec. 25 - will have a chance to play in that game if he produces multiple negative tests thanks to new guidelines the league introduced Monday.
