The NBA fined Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young $15,000 for making contact with a referee, the league announced Friday.

The incident took place during the second quarter of Atlanta's 122-111 loss to the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.

Following the contest, Young spoke out against the league's new rules, which aim to curb foul calls when offensive players use unnatural movements.

Young has gone from being ranked fourth league-wide in free throw attempts per game in 2020-21 to just 32nd this year.

Despite his difficulties in getting to the line, Young is still averaging 24.2 points and 10 assists per game during the Hawks' 3-2 start to the new campaign.
