Wall on good terms with Rockets as team seeks trade

The relationship between John Wall and the Houston Rockets remains positive despite both parties deciding the five-time All-Star wouldn't suit up for the team moving forward.

Wall and general manager Rafael Stone were talking openly and optimistically about the next steps during Houston's media day.

"Ever since I've come here everything's been professional just being with the organization and talking with coach (Stephen) Silas," said Wall on Monday. "We just all came together to feel like this was the best decision for both parties of our team."

"It wasn't easy, it was tough. But my job here is to be a mentor, be a leadership, and try to teach these guys how the NBA goes," continued Wall.

Stone also mentioned the team's commitment to helping Wall find a new squad, saying the Rockets are "making sure everyone ends up in a good place."

The executive added that the club isn't interested in a buyout, and Houston will now search for potential trade opportunities. Meanwhile, Wall said he hasn't made a wish list of landing spots.

Injuries aren't the issue for Wall, though he hasn't played in 41 games during a campaign since the 2016-17 season.

A fully healthy Wall could be a valuable contributor for a contending team this year. The 31-year-old averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists per game last season.
