Mitchell out for rest of regular season, will be re-evaluated before playoffs

Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell will miss the team's final three games of the regular season after having his sprained ankle re-evaluated Tuesday, the team announced.

He'll be re-evaluated again before the playoffs start.

Mitchell, 24, hasn't played since injuring his ankle on April 16 in a win over the Indiana Pacers. The Jazz initially announced he would be out at least a week due to a "significant" sprain, but he'll miss exactly one month when the Jazz finish their regular season on May 16 against the Sacramento Kings.

The two-time All-Star ends the season with 26.4 points and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 38.6% from deep - all career-best marks. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds and one steal in 33.4 minutes across 53 appearances.

In 13 games without Mitchell, Utah has gone 8-5 and reclaimed the top spot in the Western Conference after temporarily falling behind the Phoenix Suns. They've also secured the second seed at minimum in the Western Conference playoffs.
