Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell exited during the third quarter of Friday's 119-111 win over the Indiana Pacers with a right ankle sprain.

The 24-year-old will undergo an MRI later tonight after initial X-Rays on his ankle came back negative, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. There's early optimism that Mitchell's injury isn't a major one, Wojnarowski adds.

Mitchell suffered the sprain when he landed awkwardly after attempting to intercept a pass. The All-Star guard needed teammates to help him off the court, and the team later ruled him out for the remainder of the contest. Mitchell finished with 22 points in 21 minutes before exiting.

Mitchell has been one of the most important players for the league-leading Jazz this season, along with Rudy Gobert. The fourth-year guard entered Friday's game averaging career highs in points (26.5), assists (5.3), and 3-point percentage (38.5%) in 52 starts.

The Jazz improved to 42-14 with the victory, which moved them 1.5 games ahead of the Phoenix Suns for the West's top record.
