Report: NBA teams considering adding third 2-way contract to rosters
With COVID-19 health and safety protocols significantly affecting NBA teams this season, league executives discussed Friday expanding rosters to include a third two-way contract slot, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Such a move requires NBPA approval, but there's momentum toward making the change, reports Wojnarowski.
Teams are operating with expanded 15-man rosters this season with two additional slots for players on two-way contracts. The G League season hasn't started yet, and those players are currently with NBA squads.
Rules stipulate that once a player on a two-way contract appears in a certain number of NBA games, their team must convert their deal to a standard NBA contract. For this abbreviated 72-game campaign, players on two-way deals are eligible to be activated for 50 games before that requirement kicks in.
