16 NBA players test positive since Jan. 6

Sixteen of 497 NBA players have tested positive for COVID-19 since Jan. 6, the league and the National Basketball Players Association announced Tuesday.

The league recorded only four new cases among players between Dec. 30 and Jan. 7.

The announcement comes after the NBA introduced stricter safety measures to try to limit the spread of COVID-19.

With a rising number of players facing quarantine due to positive tests and contact tracing, some teams have been unable to field the minimum eight active players required to play a game. The league has been forced to postpone six games from Jan. 10 to 13 as a result, including three on Wednesday's slate alone.

The recent run of postponements brings the total for the 2020-21 season to seven.
