735 days after his last NBA game, John Wall made his long-awaited return to the hardwood in the Houston Rockets' 122-119 win over the Sacramento Kings on New Year's Eve.

Wall was relieved to finally get back on the court and showcase what he's capable of.

"It was great, man, just to get out there and have fun. When I get between those four lines and once the ball touches my hands after the jump ball, I was fine," the former Washington Wizards star said postgame, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "I was happy to be able to compete with some of the best guys in this league and (demonstrate) that I have the ability to be one of the best point guards in this league."

The five-time All-Star notably suffered a torn Achilles tendon in February 2019 while recovering from a separate heel injury, a development that contributed to his long layoff. Entering this season healthy, Wall was forced to miss the Rockets' opening two games to comply with the league's health and safety protocols.

Now that he's finally back with a game under his belt, the 30-year-old is already determined to improve upon his impressive season debut.

"Having 22 (points), nine (assists), and six (rebounds) is not bad for my first game in two years," Wall said. "I can pat myself on the back for that, and I know that I'll be even better for the next game."

Wall's new teammates were thrilled to have him on the floor, particularly Christian Wood.

"He looks like he's back in his All-Star mode," the Rockets center said.

Wall and the Rockets return to action Saturday against the Kings.
