Mavs sign 2nd-round pick Terry to deal with $4.6M guaranteed
The Dallas Mavericks have signed second-round draft pick Tyrell Terry to a four-year contract with $4.6 million in guaranteed money, his agents told ESPN's Bobby Marks.
Second-round draft choices rarely receive such a large amount in guaranteed money. Terry's portion is roughly equivalent to what the 24th overall pick gets.
Players selected in the second round aren't subject to the NBA's rookie wage scale. Under the 2020-21 scale, the draft's first pick earns $8.1 million, with the pay decreasing in increments until pick No. 30, which is pegged at $1.6 million.
The Charlotte Hornets also reportedly gave Vernon Carey Jr. - who was selected one spot after Terry - a four-year deal with the most guaranteed money among second-round picks in 2020.
Terry gained 10 pounds in muscle before the draft after averaging 15 points on 41% 3-point shooting during his lone year at Stanford.
