Report: Teams preparing sign-and-trade offers for Bertans
Multiple organizations have their sights set on Washington Wizards sharpshooter Davis Bertans.
Teams lacking the cap space to sign Bertans in free agency this offseason are preparing sign-and-trade offers for the forward, NBC Sports Washington's Chase Hughes reports.
Two Eastern Conference teams and one Western Conference club are apparently interested in acquiring Bertans in a sign-and-trade. The Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, and Phoenix Suns are reportedly expected to bid for the 3-point marksman in free agency.
Washington has stated on multiple occasions it will do its best to re-sign Bertans. The Wizards own the 27-year-old's Bird rights, so they could exceed the salary cap to keep him.
Bertans averaged 15.4 points on 42.4% shooting from beyond the arc in 54 appearances this past season. Though he was fully healthy, the Latvian elected to opt out of the league's Orlando restart to help preserve his free-agency value.
