NBA pays respect on what would have been Kobe's 42nd birthday
Kobe Bryant was born on Aug. 23, 1978, and would have been 42 years old today. The NBA community marked the occasion with messages to the late Los Angeles Lakers icon, who died in a helicopter crash with eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, on Jan. 26 this year.

Kobe taught us to be better. A better scorer, better mentor, better father, better champion. Today, on his birthday, we continue his endless pursuit of better.
