LeBron James knows public safety remains the top priority, and he's evidently begun to envision a world where the 2019-20 NBA season never reaches its rightful conclusion.

"I don’t think I'll be able to have any closure if we're not able to finish the season," James said during a conference call Wednesday, according to USA Today's Mark Medina.

James had piloted his Los Angeles Lakers to a 49-14 (.778) record, the top seed in the Western Conference, and a strong opportunity to advance deep into the postseason when the season was halted following Rudy Gobert's positive diagnosis for COVID-19 on March 11.

On Monday, nearly four weeks after the hiatus began, NBA commissioner Adam Silver admitted he'd told his staff not to expect a decision on the future of the 2019-20 season until May at the earliest.

Whether the remainder of the regular season, James' burgeoning MVP race against Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, or the playoffs are able to continue in any form remains to be seen.

Thus, James now finds himself asking the same question as every basketball fan.

“Will there be another game this year with NBA fans in the stands?" James said Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times' Brad Turner. "I truly hope so.

"I don’t know, but I truly hope so."
