Embiid to help fund antibody testing for frontline health-care workers

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is joining forces with team co-owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer on funding for COVID-19 antibody testing for frontline health-care workers, the star told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The combined $1.3-million contribution is expected to fund testing for 1,000 health-care workers in the Philadelphia region through Penn Medicine.

"If the doctors and nurses get sick, then there is no one to help the rest of us who might get really sick over the next month," Embiid said.

"It's not as easy as simply writing the check," he added. "It's a process to figure out the best way you feel comfortable helping."

Almost two weeks ago, the 76ers reversed course on a plan to cut employees' salaries by up to 20% due to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. At the time, Embiid committed $500,000 to COVID-19 relief efforts.
