Philadelphia 76ers big man Al Horford has pledged $500,000 toward relief efforts in response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Horford's donation is reportedly targeted at aiding his native Dominican Republic in addition to Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, the state of Michigan, and Gainesville, Florida.

After starring at Grand Ledge High School in Michigan, Horford played for the Gators at the University of Florida for three seasons. Since joining the NBA, the 33-year-old Horford has played for the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, and 76ers.

Fellow NBA veteran CJ McCollum of the Portland Trail Blazers also reportedly made a $170,000 donation Thursday to support COVID-19 relief efforts. Horford and McCollum join a growing pool of players - along with ownership groups - who have contributed through various means since the regular season was suspended March 11.
