The Brooklyn Nets fear that guard Caris LeVert suffered ligament damage to his right thumb, according to Stadium's Shams Charania.

He is expected to miss several weeks, sources told Charania. LeVert is reportedly visiting specialists for further evaluation.

He missed Brooklyn's game Tuesday against the Utah Jazz with what the team called a thumb sprain.

If he's out long term, it will be the second straight season in which the swingman faces a lengthy absence. He missed nearly three months after dislocating his right foot in a freak play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Nov. 12, 2018.

LeVert, 25, is averaging 16.8 points, five rebounds, and four assists in nine games this season. He ranks third on the team in scoring behind Kyrie Irving and Spencer Dinwiddie.

In a potentially related move, the Nets announced Wednesday they have signed free-agent guard Iman Shumpert.
