Forbes: Clippers' Ballmer is richest sports team owner in U.S.
Steve Ballmer topped Forbes' list of the richest sports team owners in the United States for 2019.
The Los Angeles Clippers owner and former Microsoft CEO claimed the No. 1 spot for the fifth straight year with a net worth of $51.4 billion - more than four times that of the second-richest owner. His net worth has increased $9.4 billion from last year, which Forbes' Kurt Badenhausen attributes to a 21% gain in Microsoft's shares over the past 12 months.
Ballmer purchased the Clippers for $2 billion in 2014 after former owner Donald Sterling was forced to sell the team.
Several other NBA owners also made the list, with the Denver Nuggets' Stanley Kroenke ($9.7 billion), Miami Heat's Micky Arison ($8.1 billion), and Cleveland Cavaliers' Dan Gilbert ($6.5 billion) cracking the top 10.
