Davis: Lakers included LeBron, me in every player decision

The Los Angeles Lakers sought input from two very important voices as they constructed their new roster this offseason.

Despite only joining the club this past summer via trade, Anthony Davis revealed during the Lakers' media day conference that the front office ensured both he and LeBron James played a key role in determining who they'd share the court with for the upcoming campaign.

"I think the front office did a great job of including LeBron and myself in the decisions to build this team," he said Friday. "Every guy that is on this team, me and LeBron had a say so in. I think that's very important.

"... It would be pretty weird to go to war with a guy you don't really like. So they made sure they wanted to include us in every decision."

After finalizing the multi-player deal that brought Davis to Los Angeles from the New Orleans Pelicans, the Lakers turned to the free-agent market and brought in a bevy of new names, including Jared Dudley, Troy Daniels, Avery Bradley, and Dwight Howard. They also retained some familiar faces, such as Rajon Rondo and Alex Caruso.

While Davis suggested he and James vetted each of those transactions, he admits the summer recruitment process, for the most part, wasn't very difficult.

"It wasn't really a vision. I just told guys we definitely have an opportunity to do something special here this year," he said. "All you can ask for is a chance in this league and we definitely have a chance to do something special. A lot of guys actually were texting me, 'You and LeBron, can I join?' So it was pretty easy on my end.

"But there were guys that we had to try to convince that we really wanted here that ended up being here and now ... we feel we have all the right pieces to do what we want to do and reach our ultimate goal. Now it's about just going out and buckling down and doing it."

The Lakers begin their regular season against the Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 22.
