Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield is asking for donations to help the Bahamas rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.

"As you know, my country, the Bahamas, has been severely damaged by the Hurricane Dorian," Hield wrote on a GoFundMe page. "My heart is broken for my fellow Bahamians, especially on the island I was raised on, Grand Bahama. I personally know many people who still need rescuing, and there are thousands without medical help, power, food, or other basic necessities. Bahamians are a strong people, but they still need our help to get them through this."

For his part, Hield announced a $100,000 donation. The Buddy Hield Foundation will oversee the purchase and dispersal of everyday items - from canned goods to clothes to toiletries - as the Bahamas begins to recover from the devastation.

Hield and Phoenix Suns big man Deandre Ayton are the only two active NBA players from Caribbean archipelago, which sits approximately 50 miles southeast of Florida.

With massive flooding and the infrastructure of the island decimated, the full extent of Dorian's fatalities has yet to be determined. "We can expect more deaths to be recorded," Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said, according to CNN's Holly Yan and Patrick Oppmann. "Our priority is search, rescue, and recovery."
