Boston Celtics center Al Horford will become a free agent on June 30 after deciding not to pick up the $30.1-million option on the final year of his contract, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, who added that both sides have interest in working out a new deal.

Horford, 33, averaged 13.6 points in 68 games this past season while hitting 36 percent of his 3-point shots - the second-best mark of his career.

It's possible he could return to the Celtics at a lower annual salary on a longer-term deal. Cutting approximately $10 million from his current contract would give Boston its full mid-level exception for next season.
