Sixers' Simmons given flagrant foul, $20K fine for groin hit on Lowry
Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons has been retroactively assessed a flagrant-1 foul and fined $20,000 for making contact with the groin of Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry, NBA vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe announced Friday.
Simmons fell to the floor while battling for a rebound midway through the second quarter of Game 3 of the teams' Eastern Conference semifinals matchup on Thursday.
With Lowry standing over him, Simmons appeared to intentionally raise his left elbow directly into the Raptors All-Star's nether regions. No foul was originally called on the play.
After the game, Lowry downplayed Simmons' low blow.
"It's nothing. He said he didn't mean to do it," Lowry said, according to TSN's Josh Lewenberg. "I'm not gonna dwell on something that wasn't called. It is what it is. It's not a big deal."
The 76ers would go on to steamroll the Raptors, 116-95, taking a 2-1 series lead.
