The New Orleans Pelicans have hired Brooklyn Nets assistant general manager Trajan Langdon to be their new general manager, the team announced Sunday.

He will replace Dell Demps, who was fired amid the Anthony Davis trade rumors last season, and will work alongside executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin.

According to The Athletic's Joe Vardon, Langdon and Griffin are familiar with one another; the former earned his first role in an NBA front office under Griffin with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"Trajan is a tremendous talent and shares in our vision of what it means to be a part of the Pelican family, on and off the floor," Griffin said in a statement. "We are excited to add he and his family to our leadership group as we continue building upon that vision."

The 43-year-old Langdon was named the 2018-19 G League Executive of the Year for his work with Brooklyn's affiliate, the Long Island Nets. It was his third season in charge of the developmental franchise, which lost to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers - the Houston Rockets' G League team - in the finals.

Langdon joined the Nets in March 2016 and was one of the first hires of general manager Sean Marks. Prior to his time in Brooklyn, he served as director of player administration and basketball operations for the Cavaliers. He also worked as a scout for the San Antonio Spurs.

His connection to the Cavaliers stems back to his playing career in which he was drafted 11th overall by the organization in 1999. Though he had a short-lived three-year stint in the NBA, he would go on to fare much better in Europe, helping Russian giants CSKA Moscow capture two EuroLeague championships in three years.
