The Houston Rockets officially signed free-agent power forward Kenneth Faried on Monday, and he promptly came off the bench against the Philadelphia 76ers.

It was reported over the weekend that the Rockets were aggressively pursuing a deal for Carmelo Anthony to make room for Faried. On Monday, Houston reportedly moved Anthony to the Chicago Bulls.

The 29-year-old Faried played 12 games this season with the Brooklyn Nets. He spent the previous seven seasons with the Denver Nuggets.

Despite the Anthony deal, the Rockets were forced to waive guard James Nunnally to free up a roster spot for Faried as the NBA office is closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Houston desperately wanted Faried for Monday's game, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
