Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James passed Wilt Chamberlain to move into fifth on the NBA's all-time scoring list on Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center.

NBA's All-Time Scoring List

Rank Player Points
1 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 38387
2 Karl Malone 36928
3 Kobe Bryant 33643
4 Michael Jordan 32292
5 LeBron James 31425
6 Wilt Chamberlain 31419

"When I'm able to do what I love to do and do it at this level, and even be mentioned with the greats that have ever played this game, it just always brings me back to my hometown of Akron and knowing where I come from, knowing how hard it was to get to this point and just never being in satisfied mode," James said during his postgame interview.

James passed Chamberlain late in the fourth quarter at the charity stripe.

He finished the night one assist short of a triple-double, recording 44 points on 13-of-19 shooting, 10 rebounds, nine dimes, and three rejections in 36 minutes of action in a 126-117 Lakers victory. The 44 points were the most by a Laker since Kobe Bryant's 60-point game in 2016.

He told reporters that both the game ball and his uniform will be sent to his I Promise School in Akron.

James now needs 867 points to pass Michael Jordan for fourth place.
