Ronny Chieng of 'The Daily Show' loves basketball ... but not Kobe Bryant

Stand-up comedian Ronny Chieng, a senior correspondent on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah," has a bone to pick with Kobe Bryant.

Chieng, who also appeared in the summer blockbuster "Crazy Rich Asians," takes issue with the win-at-all-costs mantra many ascribe to the five-time NBA champion.

"The truth is, you wanted to win, but you wanted to win on your own terms," Chieng says on the debut episode of "At Large with Alex Wong."

"Because Tim Duncan, all he wanted to do was win. He didn't care about the shoe deal; he didn't have ego with it. He was the boss but he held himself accountable. He wasn't trying to portray some kind of alpha-dog persona. He just wanted to win."

Chieng, an avid NBA fan, also questions whether championship rings should factor into arguments over the greatest players of all time, asking, "Is that the message we're telling kids? The journey doesn't matter. How you do it doesn't matter. Just win a championship. In which case, Robert Horry won more championships than Kobe. Are we saying Robert Horry is a better player than Kobe Bryant?"
