New York Knicks coach David Fizdale is a fan of Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving.

"He's the one guy I would pay to go see," Fizdale told the media Saturday, according to The New York Times' Adam Zagoria. "He's a difficult cover, man. He's a natural performer. He looks better than before."

Irving is currently under contract with the Celtics through the end of the season, with a player option for 2019-20, but he has long been a rumored free-agency target of the Knicks. He announced in front of Celtics season-ticket holders earlier this month that he intends to re-sign with the franchise next summer.

Fizdale's comments are similar to those that have triggered tampering fines in in recent years. Perhaps anticipating the potential backlash, the coach proceeded to downplay his organization's future free-agency decisions, maintaining that his attention is firmly affixed to the Knicks' current roster.

"I'm all in with this group," he said. "I can't be worried about what's going to happen in the summer and the future."
