Report: Butler may not attend training camp if he isn't traded
Jimmy Butler's tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves will soon be coming to an end - the writing is on the wall.
There remains a real possibility that Butler may not report to training camp on Sept. 25 if he's not moved, league sources told The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.
He requested a trade after meeting with head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and reportedly prefers to be shipped to the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, or Brooklyn Nets.

While the front office has reportedly informed inquiring teams that Butler is staying in Minnesota, team owner Glen Taylor has a different mindset. Taylor reportedly told those attending the recent NBA Board of Governors meeting that Butler is, in fact, available.

Butler could depart Minnesota on his own merit next summer by turning down a $19.8-million player option to become an unrestricted free agent. If he's traded, Butler would remain eligible for a five-year, $190-million max contract extension.
He was one of nine players in the Association last season to average at least 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game.
