Kyrie told Nike to give Sue Bird 'whatever she wants' after she wore his shoes
Since meeting during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving and Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird have built a friendship that centers around their mutual love of sneakers.
In a piece by SB Nation's Matt Ellentuck, Irving revealed he was so thrilled to learn Bird loves his signature shoes that he asked Nike to give her special treatment.
"I went to Nike and I was like 'Are you seeing the greatest point guard to ever play the game wear my shoes?' OK yeah, give her whatever she wants,'" Irving said.
Bird frequently posts photos of her shoes on Instagram. Her latest, a custom pair of Kyrie 4s designed by Kickstradomis, features Granny from Loony Tunes as a nod to her being the oldest player in the WNBA.
