Hawks' Young not concerned over whether he or Lin starts

Trae Young sounds willing to run with any role that's presented to him with the Atlanta Hawks, even if that means coming off the bench.

Jeremy Lin is also in the mix to be the starting point guard, but even if that were the road first-year head coach Lloyd Pierce elected to go down, the rookie knows he'll still receive plenty of opportunities.

"We'll just wait and see what happens," Young told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore. "I don't get caught up in all of that. I know I'm going to get a chance to play and do what I do on the court. I just need to control what I can control."

Lin is coming off a 2017-18 campaign with the Brooklyn Nets where he appeared in just a single game due to a season-ending right knee injury, but is hopeful he'll be ready for training camp in the fall. He was dealt to the Hawks last month in exchange for 2016 second-rounder Isaia Cordinier.

Young, meanwhile, went ice cold with his shot over three games in the Utah Summer League, converting 23 percent from the field for 12.7 points in 29 minutes. The fifth overall pick did bounce back in Las Vegas, at least, boosting his scoring to 17 points in fewer minutes, but still shot below 40 percent (38).

Whoever is slotted in as Atlanta's starter would be replacing the outgoing Dennis Schroder, who was shipped off to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of a package for Carmelo Anthony, who the Hawks then bought out.
