Since being fired as coach of the Detroit Pistons in May, Stan Van Gundy has expressed interest in a return to the bench, but with no offers forthcoming and all NBA head gigs currently spoken for, he's not sure what he'll do next.
"If I could get a job, I had planned to coach. Now, I really don't know," Van Gundy told Rex Walters on the Real Talk Basketball podcast. "I'm really lost right now. I don't have an idea. My wife wants me to retire."
Van Gundy did some media work between his stints coaching the Orlando Magic and the Pistons, and left the door open to that possibility now. His brother Jeff is ABC/ESPN's lead game analyst.
"I have some people looking into some media things," he said. "I want to do something, but if I'm not coaching, I don't want to work too hard ... if I'm not going to be coaching, I want to be semi-retired, at least."
Van Gundy, who turns 59 this month, has a career 523-384 head coaching record with three teams.
