The Memphis Grizzlies and free-agent point guard Shelvin Mack are progressing in talks toward a one-year contract, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday.

Mack would provide some depth behind oft-injured starting point guard Mike Conley. Memphis also drafted Jevon Carter out of West Virginia in the second round of June's draft.

The Orlando Magic waived Mack on June 25. The 28-year-old has played with five NBA teams since 2011, averaging 6.4 points and 3.1 assists.
