Report: Hawks and Thunder talking about trading Schroder for Melo

The Atlanta Hawks and Oklahoma City Thunder are reportedly in trade talks about swapping disgruntled point guard Dennis Schroder for Carmelo Anthony, sources told SiriusXM NBA's Mitch Lawrence.

Atlanta would reportedly buy out Anthony and would also send reserve center Mike Muscala to the Thunder. The Hawks are looking for another asset in return, Lawrence adds.

Moving Schroder has been a major priority for the Hawks this summer in order to clear the way for No. 5 pick Trae Young and replace the 24-year-old German with a high-character veteran. They reportedly acquired Jeremy Lin earlier in July.

Schroder averaged 19.4 points and 6.2 assists per game last season. If he buys into a supporting role with OKC, he could be a valuable piece as a backup or alongside Russell Westbrook.

Anthony is still heavily favored to sign with the Houston Rockets once he's bought out by a team that acquires him via trade.
