The Golden State Warriors are rewarding head coach Steve Kerr for his role in turning the franchise into a perennial NBA championship favorite with a contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

"We're excited to have Steve under contract and poised to lead our team for the next several years," said Warriors president of basketball operations and general manager Bob Myers in an official statement. "Under his guidance, we've been fortunate enough to win three NBA titles in four years and his ability to thrive in all facets of his job is certainly a primary reason for our success.

"He's a terrific coach, but more importantly an incredible human being."

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, Kerr's extension will reportedly make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Association, doubling his current per-year rate.

He's coming off the fourth season of a five-year, $25-million contract he inked back in 2014. Kerr is also one of just three coaches (Phil Jackson and John Kundla) to guide his team to three titles during his first four years on the job.

The Warriors have a 265-63 regular-season record (.808) under Kerr's tutelage and are 63-20 (.759) in the playoffs.
