Report: Howard to sign 1-year deal with Wizards after buyout from Nets
Dwight Howard will sign a one-year deal with the Washington Wizards for the taxpayer mid-level exception after completing his buyout with the Brooklyn Nets, league sources told Jared Weiss of The Athletic.
If he does sign the taxpayer mid-level, the 32-year-old will earn $5.3 million next season.
Howard will join a retooled Wizards roster that includes guard Austin Rivers and forward Jeff Green, who reportedly agreed to sign for the minimum on Tuesday. The team is trying to get more athletic and appease franchise cornerstone John Wall.
Howard, an eight-time All-Star, has fallen on hard times. He's burned out of Houston, Atlanta, and Charlotte, with teams happier to rid themselves of his locker-room presence despite the 32-year-old's production.
As a Hornet last year, Howard averaged a double-double of 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds on 55.5 percent shooting in 81 games.
