Report: Former 5-star recruit Billy Preston to join Cavs' summer league squad
The Cleveland Cavaliers will give Billy Preston an opportunity this summer.
The former five-star recruit and 6-foot-10 power forward will be part of Cleveland's summer league roster, sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
Preston went undrafted on Thursday after playing overseas for BC Igokea of the Adriatic League. He made just three appearances, averaging seven points, four rebounds, and an assist on 38.1 percent shooting in 15.8 minutes.
The 20-year-old was a member of the Kansas Jayhawks, but he didn't participate in any regular-season action following an NCAA investigation into an automobile accident on campus last November that brought up eligibility concerns.
With no resolution forthcoming at the time, Preston decided to leave school and compete in Europe, although his tenure was cut short due to a shoulder injury.
Not playing a second of college ball, seeing very little overseas action, and also sitting out five-on-five games at the NBA Draft Combine attributed to Preston going undrafted.
