Despite his eight All-Star appearances, Dwight Howard's popularity has been on the wane of late.

As Howard continues to work toward a buyout from the Brooklyn Nets (after being traded by the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks in successive offseasons), there may only be one move left that could really elevate his broad unpopularity to a higher echelon.

Howard has "serious interest" in signing with the Golden State Warriors this summer, though some within the organization remain doubtful of the big man's fit, according to USA TODAY Sports' Sam Amick.

Upon his buyout with the Nets, Howard will be an unrestricted free agent. While the Warriors will be limited in their ability to offer Howard a contract in line with his Hall of Fame-caliber resume and still potent ability as a rebounder, the team has a need for a center, with JaVale McGee, Zaza Pachulia, David West, and Kevon Looney headed toward free agency. Even at 32, Howard averaged 16.6 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game last season with the Hornets.

Howard, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year honoree, is also reportedly interested in playing alongside free agent LeBron James, as well as joining the New Orleans Pelicans or Washington Wizards.

The former Orlando Magic superstar isn't the only veteran target on the Warriors' current shopping list, however. Houston Rockets forward Trevor Ariza and Los Angeles Clippers guard Avery Bradley have also been discussed as potential additions through free agency, as has three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner Jamal Crawford, who the players themselves have reportedly stumped for.
