The father of New York Knicks big man Enes Kanter faces charges of "membership in a terror group" in his native Turkey for his alleged ties to Fethullah Gulen, according to Anadolu Agency via ESPN News Services.

Mehmet Kanter, a professor, could face 5-to-10 years in prison for allegedly supporting a failed 2016 military coup that the Turkish government says was led by Gulen, a U.S.-based cleric. Gulen has positioned himself in opposition to current Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Enes, whose Turkish passport was revoked by the government for his own criticism of Erdogan, posted a video earlier Monday after his father was indicted.

It's not clear when the trial will start.
