Iguodala pranked Warriors last summer, claiming he'd sign with Kings

Andre Iguodala loves pulling off a good practical joke, although his execution isn't always perfect.

The veteran wing was an unrestricted free agent last summer, and the Rockets and Kings were both in the running to acquire his services. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr wasn't necessarily worried about Houston stealing him because of its lack of cap space, but Sacramento had the financial resources to offer him a sizable deal.

"He (Andre) decided to play a joke on Bob (Myers) and me. He got us on a conference call, told us he was gonna go to Sacramento," said Kerr on Zach Lowe's "The Lowe Post" on Monday. "We wished him well, and he's like, 'I got you suckers. I'm coming back.' That's probably the first time it's ever been told.

"But now that we've won a title and we got it all in our rearview mirror, that story can be told. But that's typical Andre."

While Iguodala was probably hoping to make Myers and Kerr sweat a little as part of his joke, his acting skills weren't strong enough to sustain his plan.

"I bought it for a few seconds, but he gave it away quickly. He just started laughing. He just said, 'Nah, I'm just kidding.' And it would have been shocking for him to leave this situation," added Kerr. "Really the whole time, I thought he was coming back, but he did bust me for like five seconds."

Iguodala eventually re-signed with Golden State on a three-year, $48-million deal after originally being offered $36 million for the same period.
