Report: Wiggins not playing for Canada because of rift with Triano

It's the third-straight summer Minnesota Timberwolves small forward Andrew Wiggins won't be playing for the Canadian National Team.

One of the reasons for his absence is reportedly a "strained relationship" between Wiggins and Canadian head coach Jay Triano, according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN.

Triano benched Wiggins during the FIBA Americas championship game in 2015, which saw Canada squander a golden opportunity to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Canada suffered a heartbreaking loss to Venezuela at the buzzer on a controversial over-the-back foul.

Wiggins, who led the team in scoring during the tournament, watched from the sideline as Triano opted to play Aaron Doornekamp instead. Lewenberg reports Triano's presence as also the reason why Nik Stauskas chose not to play in this summer's qualifiers.

Canada has plenty of talent at its disposal even if Wiggins chooses to sit out. The training camp roster released on Monday includes Jamal Murray, Cory Joseph, Kelly Olynyk, Tristan Thompson, Dwight Powell and several other NBA rotation pieces.
