Thompson, Lacob recreate missed high-five after Dubs' Game 6 win
There are strange superstitions throughout sports among athletes, coaches, and even team owners. The latest example comes from the Golden State Warriors following Game 6 of the Western Conference finals Saturday night.
Immediately after Klay Thompson helped seal the Warriors' victory by scoring 21 of his 35 points in the second half against the Rockets, Warriors owner Joe Lacob got on his knees and bowed to him in the tunnel, according to The Athletic's Marcus Thompson. The scene also included Lacob's son, Kent, putting up his hand for a high-five that Thompson deliberately avoided.
The tradition goes back to almost exactly two years ago, when the sharpshooter again saved the Warriors' season with a 41-point outing in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals. During an impromptu celebration under the stands, the senior Lacob bowed down to Thompson while Kent's high-five attempt was left hanging.
Thompson's precise shooting Saturday was another chapter in his list of clutch performances. He's authored his share of legendary moments, even while widely viewed as the Warriors' third-best player. In addition to shining in Game 6 twice during separate conference finals, Thompson also holds the NBA record for points in a quarter (37).
