Suns GM expects to keep No. 1 pick

Despite proclaiming his intention to consider all scenarios, Phoenix Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said the No. 1 pick in June's draft will likely stay in the franchise's possession.

"It would have to be a young, proven star player with multiple years on his contract, multiple years of team control," McDonough said of potentially trading their pick, according to Bob Baum of The Associated Press.

"Once you start whittling down the list, that list probably shrinks to a handful of players if not fewer players than that. So I think the overwhelming likelihood is that we keep the pick. However, we're open, if those teams call us or we call them."

Several top prospects have worked out or are planning to work out for Phoenix ahead of the draft. The Suns are expected to select either Arizona superstar center Deandre Ayton or EuroLeague MVP Luka Doncic.

Doncic will be unavailable to work out because the Liga ACB season is ongoing.
