NBA legend Bill Russell hospitalized, appears to be OK

NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell was hospitalized Friday after experiencing apparent heart issues, TMZ reported Saturday and Russell later confirmed.

An ambulance was dispatched to the 84-year-old Boston Celtics legend's home after he became short of breath, law enforcement sources said.

Russell, an 11-time NBA champion and five-time league MVP, was previously hospitalized in 2014 after falling ill while giving a speech.

He offered an update on his status Saturday afternoon, acknowledging he was taken to the hospital but saying he's on his way home and doing well.
