Heat fine Whiteside for comments about playing time
Hassan Whiteside's expletive-laden rant is going to cost him.
The Miami Heat fined the center an undisclosed amount for comments he made about the coaching staff and his playing time following Saturday's 110-109 overtime loss to the Brooklyn Nets, according to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. The Heat said the basis for the fine was that the comments were "detrimental" to the team.
Whiteside was fuming after sitting out the last 21 minutes of Saturday's game, including overtime. He said it was "bulls---" that Miami would try to go small to match Brooklyn's lineup when the Heat have "one of the best centers in the league."
The former All-Defensive player finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and two blocks in 20 minutes of the defeat, which saw Miami drop from No. 7 to No. 8 in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
Whiteside, who has two years remaining on his $98-million deal, also suggested the issue could affect his future with the franchise.
