Report: Thompson suffers fractured thumb, could miss up to 2 weeks
Make that two Splash Brothers on the reigning NBA champions who will be missing time due to injury.
Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson has reportedly suffered a fractured thumb on his right (and shooting) hand and could miss up to two weeks, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes.
He will reportedly be re-evaluated on March 22. It was reported earlier on Wednesday that Thompson could miss weeks with what was believed to be a sprained thumb.
The injury occurred during Golden State's six-point loss on the road to the Minnesota Timberwolves Sunday night when Thompson attempted to steal the ball out of Jeff Teague's hands while his opponent was driving to the basket.
Thompson joins two-time league Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry on the sidelines. Curry is expected to miss at least another week of action due to a right ankle issue. Draymond Green is also dealing with a bad right elbow, right shoulder soreness, and knee tendonitis, and has been ruled out of Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Thompson has played in all but 13 games for the Warriors since entering the Association back in 2011. His only absence in 2017-18 came on Jan. 10 against the Los Angeles Clippers, and that was just for rest.
He's currently averaging 19.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 49 percent shooting from the field and 44.3 percent from behind the arc in his seventh season in the Bay Area.
The 51-16 Warriors are two games back of the 53-14 Houston Rockets for the top seed in the Western Conference and the best overall record in the NBA.
