In what has to be a first-ever instance, an NBA player was suspended over a food fight.

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Thursday that shooting guard J.R. Smith was suspended one game for detrimental conduct, and as such didn't play in the loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

As it turns out, what got Smith suspended was throwing a bowl of soup at Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

Seriously, he threw a bowl of soup.

It's unclear why Smith did what he did, but it won't impact him much beyond that one game. He'll return to the starting lineup Saturday versus the Denver Nuggets.
