Signing a five-year max contract wasn't enough for the LA Clippers to tell Blake Griffin about getting traded Monday.
Griffin said he didn't hear from the Clippers as trade talks were coming to a close, per ESPN's Nick Friedell.
"Finding out through Twitter, through other people, is a tough way to find out," Griffin said.
Griffin spent his first seven and a half seasons in Los Angeles, becoming a franchise icon for one that's had but a few. He was a five-time All-Star and made the All-NBA team on four occasions.
In the offseason, the Clippers signed Griffin to a max deal worth $171 million in guaranteed money. He was paraded around like a Clipper for life, with the franchise even staging a fake jersey retirement to show their commitment to him.
The Clippers dealt Griffin to the Detroit Pistons, along with Willie Reed and Brice Johnson for Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, and two draft picks.
Griffin is averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists this season. He'll make his Pistons debut Thursday.
