Even in his retirement, Kobe Bryant is still racking up awards.

The Los Angeles Lakers icon's short film "Dear Basketball" - an animation based on his 2015 poem of the same name in which he announced his retirement from the sport - was among Tuesday's Oscar nominees for Best Animated Short.

Bryant responded to news of his nomination on Twitter, thanking producer Glen Keane and composer John Williams for their contributions to the film.

Bryant will have to wait until March 4 to find out if the animation comes out on top when the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles hosts the 90th Academy Awards.
