Report: Cavaliers interested in trading for Kings' Hill

George Hill may find himself on a contender this season, after all.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to bolster their backcourt and have emerged as a suitor for the Sacramento Kings veteran point guard, sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.

Cleveland reportedly wants Hill to play in a dual-guard role, whether he's starting or coming off the bench.

The 31-year-old inked a three-year, $57-million contract last summer with the Kings, who picked up fellow vets Vince Carter and Zach Randolph, and reportedly told them they'd try to compete for the playoffs. It didn't take long for that goal to become unrealistic and for Sacramento to switch gears, putting all its focus on developing its young players. As such, the team has been reportedly shopping Hill, while letting No. 5 pick De'Aaron Fox run the point.

Hill is averaging 10.5 points while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 45.6 percent from 3-point territory, to go along with three boards and 2.7 dimes in 27.2 minutes per outing. He could provide some much-needed relief in terms of playmaking duties for LeBron James, who's had to shoulder much of the responsibility.

The team hasn't had much help in that area, outside of Dwyane Wade off the bench, for a few reasons. Gone is the team's All-Star point guard of the past six years, with Kyrie Irving being traded to the Boston Celtics during the offseason. His replacement Isaiah Thomas has only suited up in six games due to a hip problem, while Derrick Rose has missed time due to injuries and to briefly mull retirement.

It's believed that the third-place Cavaliers aren't confident in the current roster's chances of winning the championship and will "definitely" make a trade before the deadline to better prepare themselves for another deep playoff run, and ideally a fourth consecutive trip to the NBA Finals.
