'It's just straight game': How Angeleno All-Stars define L.A. ball

LOS ANGELES - New York's got the city game. Philadelphia and Chicago are known for breeding tough ballers. So what defines Los Angeles basketball?

With All-Star weekend rolling through Hollywood, who better to answer that question than six All-Stars bred by the City of Angels?

Russell Westbrook: "It's different, man. Growing up here in L.A., depending on what part you grew up in, basketball's different throughout L.A. Where I grew up, it kind of has a 'get it how you live' (by any means necessary) kind of attitude."

Paul George: "I think what separates us is an all-around game. We have so much competition here in L.A. that you almost have to develop so many skills to stand out. There are so many good players and there's so much good talent here that you kind of have to be an all-around player. I think that's what we stand for. We're known for guys that are pretty versatile."

Klay Thompson: "There have been so many great players in the history of Los Angeles and Southern California, and California in general, I don't know how to describe it. I'm a shooter. A guy I played with growing up was Brandon Jennings - had the best handles. Jrue Holiday. DeMar was just a freak athlete. The list goes on, but it's hard to just put into one description."

DeMar DeRozan: "Smooth. A very smooth, aggressive type of style. You look at all the guys that come out of L.A., they're all aggressive, but our style is always smooth and it kind of comes off like it's too easy at times. You look at guys like Paul George - how easy he makes the game look - to James (Harden). There are so many guys on that list that are from L.A. that just make the game look so easy."

Kevin Love: "I always think about the Showtime Lakers when I think of L.A. basketball, first and foremost. I remember growing up, my dad would pop in all the VHS tapes, whether it was ones he recorded or the very vintage games of them going up against the Boston Celtics and all those premier teams from that era. That's what makes me think of L.A. basketball, and that transcends the hardwood. It can be on the blacktop, or anywhere."

James Harden: "It's just straight game. L.A players just got game. It's not just about the handles, it's not just about the athleticism, the jumping. We can give you all that. We can give you all that. You see it from DeMar to Klay to Kawhi to Russ to me - we got all that - a shooter who can jump, who can handle, who can do everything. L.A. running it right now."
