Dion Waiters: 'I'm not coming off no bench'

The Miami Heat are playing well below the standards they set for themselves in their 30-11 finish to last season.

At 11-13 through the quarter-mark of the season, the Heat find themselves searching for answers. One potential solution, as proposed by a certain faction of Heat fans, has been to bring Dion Waiters off the bench.

Waiters emphatically shut down that idea over the weekend.

"I’m a starter in this league, man, that’s who I am. We’re going to nip that in the bud right now. I’m not coming off no bench," Waiters told Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post.

The problem for Miami has been inconsistency. They'll play their hearts out and snap the Boston Celtics' 16-game win streak, then follow it up with a complete no-show in a blowout loss to the Indiana Pacers. They haven't won three in a row and they haven't lost three in a row, which is why they keep hovering around .500 for the season.

The infamously streaky Waiters is emblematic of the problem. Waiters is just as likely to score in single digits on horrific percentages as he is to catch fire and explode for 20. Waiters is making just 40 percent of his shots, including 32.6 percent from deep, while recording 2.6 turnovers in comparison to just 3.8 assists per game.

But then again, as Waiters pointed out, he isn't the only one who has been up and down.

"Who really has been consistent on this team," Waiters asked.
