Rockets GM Morey suggests Raptors are regressing after hot start

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors have lost their last two games against supposedly inferior competition and the critics are out in full effect.

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey hinted the Raptors were regressing to the mean - or falling back to their true level, in plainer terms - following their 11-5 start to the season.

It's unclear why Morey decided to make this comment, since the Raptors were playing a hard-fought game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night - a contest that had absolutely nothing to do with the Rockets.

Perhaps it links back to the Raptors beating his Rockets 129-113 in Houston earlier this month, a game in which star player James Harden was held to 8-of-25 shooting along with nine turnovers while being guarded by Raptors rookie OG Anunoby making his first professional start.

Besides, the typical regression indicators suggest the Raptors should be doing better, not worse, as evidenced by their strong point differential and road-heavy schedule to start the season.
